And so

…and so you reach midlife.
And by now you’re pretty good at playing the game.
And you realize that you don’t really even want to play the game
Any more.
Even though it’s all you know, all you’ve been taught,
And almost everybody’s playing,
Except for a few freaks.

And you’re left with yourself, uneasy, leery of yourself,
Like a stranger.
And there’s plenty of judgment,
From yourself and others.

And yet, somehow inside you,
Something you haven’t recognized or heard from
In ages
Begins to stir.

It gives no easy answers,
It lays no paths before you
But you know it's a friend.

And so, with only the tiniest of glimpses, you start,
Afraid and insecure,
On this ancient journey,
That will lead you home.
