i accidentaly come accross a book called "the portable jack kerouac" on the 'for sale' shelf at the library. i was kind of yearning for a new book to read, and this came along, falling perfectly, it seems, in line with what i wanted. i haven't read any kerouac until now, but this book provides a nice compilation of his work. i opened it up and read it at random places, and so far i'm very much drawn to it.
i want to share this little haiku poem from it, which i love. it's so simple and pretty, and i find that it captures my view and experience of religion perfectly:
"The taste
of rain
- Why kneel?"
I also like kerouac's view of writing and literature, which he describes as follows:
"a tale told for companionship and to teach something religious, of religious reverence, about real life, in this real world which literature should... reflect".
