"every woman needs a ..."

yesterday, sena and aiyana were sitting at a table at the food co-op, having yoghurt; i was standing in line at the register waiting to pay for groceries.
then, seemingly out of nowhere, sena says to aiyana, lound enough for everyone to hear:
"every woman needs a sperm"; and the two of them continue eating their yoghurt, unaffected.

kristen, the cashier, whom we know well, gives me this look and starts laughing, then says: you'll have to tell me more about that. the guy in front of me, a stranger, can barely keep his face straight, but he's trying.

sena's been fascinated w birth and babies and wants to know everything. we explained as much as we could, and she really gets it. at one point, when our hens were laying eggs, she wanted to know if there were chicks growing inside the eggs, and we said no, bc the hens didn't get a sperm from a rooster. so then she asked if this applies to women as well, and we said yes, and hence yesterday's comment....

That's pretty funny. Sena (and kids in general, I've found) is smarter than we give her credit for.
