i'm having a hard time understanding why columbus day is still being observed as a holiday here in the US. to say that there are many conflicted feelings about this day, and esp. about it being celebrated as a holiday, is an understatement. i know many people that consider it more appropriate to grieve than to celebrate today.
but probably the majority of people are just going about, doing their thing, not giving columbus much thought at all. so maybe what we should be doing is reconsider the whole thing: columbus and his legacy, and any feelings that come up for us.
