as much as i've tried hard to learn from books and schools, not much that i hold of any significance, has been learned that way; instead, what matters most to me and what i live by, has slowly and sometimes painfully, been revealed through time, personal experience and contact with real teachers.

I do not believe school is bad. Look at the quality of life unschooled people have. More than that if you were not schooled you would not have been able to earn the money to buy the land you are working now. And I not sure if you had no schooling you would have been happier working as a day laborer on somebody's farm. Schools (and teachers) are not perfect, as nothing in life is. Schools (and good teachers, who have passion for what they do) are giving children the basics that will allow them to continue learning after finishing school. Going to an imperfect school is much better than no school at all. There are millions of children happy to be able to walk bare footed to a distant school. Look at the girl in Pakistan who was almost killed because she chose to go to school despite Taliban warnings.
sorry if i have offended you; i didn't mean to say that schools are bad. you're right, school served me well and allowed me to get a job and make enough money to buy land. schools are good for that. they prepare you to fit in the system and work within its boundaries. but many people who go to school get a superior attitude and start believing that they are above others because of that fact. and our society reinforces that belief. for me, the things that are most important, like personal integrity, independence, living in harmony, and all of that were not learned in school. i personally found it sad that after one batchelor and two masters degrees, my skills were so limitted that outside the very narrow confines of "aerospace engineering" they were almost useless.
